What I Wore

O.K. there are some blogs I hop over to now and then in which the bloggers take pictures of themselves to show what they are wearing. They are trendy dressers, fashionable, in the latest and greatest. You know what I am talking about.  Well, I am not very fashion conscious (and uh, well I am about to prove it). Sometimes I like what they are wearing, sometimes I don't, never seeking these posts out, just happening upon them.  Today, I will share what I wore for months on end. A simple outfit, really. A practical one. But first, some background information : )

I am not sure when our attic project got to the "painting" phase, but it was at that point I began donning the "What I Wore" garb. I put this outfit on as soon as I changed out of my stinky work out clothes every morning, with hopes that today would be the last day I would need to wear them. Every day I figured, if I was going to make it up to the attic for even 5 minutes of painting I would need a the jump start of not having to change into them.

Fast forward several month.  The attic project is completely finished and the "boys and girls room swap" is well under way.  The boys room, our front right bedroom was originally the master bedroom. When we moved in 14 1/2 years ago it needed paint and never got it. It now has a nice fresh coat of a neutral "toasted oats" color, ceiling and all. The girls wanted purple on their walls. So, it was in hopes of breaking into the gallon of Lilac Bouquet that I dressed in my "What I Wore" clothes this sunny morning in late June.  It was that hope that kept me in them as I ran Jacob and several friends to an airsoft game that afternoon. Only on my way home, remembering several birthday parties the following day did I realize that I would wear these same said clothes into the our local mall where I knew a particular store sold the gift items I had in mind for both parties.  "Oh well, who cares how I look!" I told myself as I hopped out of the car and jogged toward Books A Million.  After some searching and the help of an employee I found the items I needed, payed and headed out.  As I headed in the direction of my car, an elderly gentleman was walking toward me. As he passed he said "bad hair day."   I burst into a chuckle, thinking, "oh man, YOU do not know the half of it!!" I am thankful to be secure in Christ, not my clothing (or hair - hee hee).

Snapshot Summary #21

I am really enjoying putting together these snapshot summaries. It is about all the blogging I can handle with the school/house load at this point. I try to upload pictures throughout the week and write in a bit for each day on Friday night after the children are asleep. Here is what last week looked like, well here's a flavor of last week anyway.

The snow coming down last night amounted to about 7 to 10 inches. I love the first snow fall. Everything sparkles with white and looks so clean and lovely. Drew left Chloe here and took the rest of the children sledding! They had a blast.

5 - December, 2010

I woke up this morning with a terrible head ache. Poor Chloe was still sick this AM too. Drew ended up keeping everyone here so he could take care of me and Chloe. I slept until 12:45, then took a nap with Chloe from 1:30 to 3:30!

I am so thankful for how well the school schedule is continuing to go. In many past years by this point I have tried three different tactics with little success. I am praising the Lord for each day we can continue on target. I am also really thankful for a Bible Study book I order for the older 3 to do. It seems a little above Abi but I think Mary and Jacob are enjoying digging into God's Word

We got Mary's dress project back out. She hasn't worked on it for a long time. I decided if it isn't in the dining room it will never get worked on. She is doing a great job on the dress. Unfortunately I influenced her to use a small sized pattern we had assuring her of my willingness to help her modify it to fit her. The modifications have been REALLY stretching my ability. I am just hoping the final product turns out well.

Drew finds a strange joy in capturing pictures of children crying. He really thinks they are cute when they cry. I took these pictures for his benefit.

Drew drove me to Aldi tonight. He dropped Mary and Abram off with me, then took the others to the pet store because they wanted to buy Bil Jacs - a dog treat Banjo really likes. The treats work great for training him.

We enjoyed helping Connor celebrate turning seven! Here's Connor's Grandma and little sister Penny.

Poor Red Neck (aka Penny) stepped in a rat trap (of the sticky variety). Baruch came rushing in with the dreadful news. By his anxiety I thought the poor bird had gotten her beak stuck, awaiting emanate death! Thankfully she had only stepped in it. I dipped her feet in oil and scrubbed her up with soap. She got the tiniest bit on her feathers so there was minimal clipping to get her back up, running and as good as new.

I am so thankful for the plethora of blogs that I have run across posting something they are thankful for each day for the month of November! What a testimony of God's greatness. For me putting on the thankful heart eliminates so much anxiety and distress. I am ashamed I do not walk in thankfulness more.

Pa and Grandma brought the neatest globe when they last visited. It is a v-tech interactive globe with a game that tests how many continents and oceans/ countries / state and provinces . . . you can locate in 45 seconds. What an exciting way to improve everyones geography skills. I enjoy the challenge too!

Here Jacob is doing to Chloe what we have been doing with Banjo to teach him to enjoy someone touching his paws as well as to teach him to submit to our authority. Chloe needs the later ;)

I am really enjoying our science time this year. The book is full of "Try This" boxes with activities that reinforce what they are suppose to remember. This is a picture of the "Try This" box on mummification. This is the control apple. Unfortunately the test apple which was "embalmed" with baking soda and salt was not uncovered early enough to look much different. We started the experiment a couple days before leaving for Kentucky. I guess I should have put them both in the refrigerator. Really, most of the experiment are good ones, You gotta believe me on this one.

Mary, Jacob and Abi had their first Autumn semester piano lessons! They are so excited to be back at the piano.

Wednesday and Thursday - I am amazed that we are staying on schedule so well. I put our entire school day on google calendar. Jennifer gave me the idea and it has worked great! I have a separate calendar for each child. Each calendar, therefor each child has a unique color. Once I have worked out all the bugs I plan to post the whole thing on the wall like I did last year. My laundry seems to be getting further and further behind and I am not sure when to fit it in. I may have to give up posting these updates so I can fold laundry :-).

A very full day! Mary and Jacob had fiddle and guitar lessons from 9-10 AM. I took the younger children to a nearby park to play. It was a cold windy morning and I had not packed enough jackets so everyone was in and out of the van to warm up. I had to use the restroom, took Chloe with me. . .Abi was in and out getting a my sweater for Abram. . .Then it happened! The keys got locked in the van. Everyone had gone back to the play equipment and there I was, trying each door in turn in vain. "Well guys" I announced, "we are about to embark on an adventure." We were suppose to pick Mary and Jacob up at 10 AM about a mile from the park. It was now 9:40. I estimated we could walk it, if we really booked. Of coarse, my emergency cell phone was locked in the van with the keys. A kind hearted citizen noticed Chloe's bare legs, did I mention it was really chilly and the wind was blowing? Well, it was really chilly and the wind was blowing, so seeing Chloe's bare legs this kind lady gave us a ride to the lesson. Mary and Cob's teacher very kindly let me call Drew who informed me of a hidden spare key. Then the teacher drove us over to the park, found the key and voila, we were off to our friends house for our science co-op! Tonya did a great job reviewing our first lesson. Then the kids all built a cell using jello for the cytoplasm, a gum drop for the nucleus, jelly beans for the mitochondria, skittles for the centrioles, fruit roll ups for the ER(endoplasmic reticulum), sprinkles for the ribosomes. . . What a great cementing activity. We got home and Chloe was asleep so I carried her up, then some neighbor boys came over to play and stayed for homemade pizza. About 6:15 I headed out for a ladies bible study and truly enjoyed the fellowship and encouragement from God's word.

Chloe and Abram played SO nicely together Friday after Chloe woke up from her nap. The held hands and Abram led her around. They played legos, puppy and in the sand box. I am so thankful when the children enjoy each other. It does happen!

I took Mary, Cob, Abi, Baruch, and Chloe to visit Great Grandma while Abram helped Drew build some shelves in the bathroom. Grandma Ruth inspires me every time I visit with her. She has an insatiable curiosity, a zeal for learning and a love of playing word games!

We got home about 7:25. Drew put those at home to bed while Mary and I made the monthly Wal Mart run, as well as the weekly Aldi/Sam's Club run. The new menu plan has helped me stream line my shopping lists but we still didn't get home until 9:45! Drew came down to help unload while I put away fast and furious. I was exhausted when I climbed in to bed about 10:45 PM!

25 - September, 2010

I woke up with a BIG BAD headache! UGH! I shuffled down stairs and chopped an onion and stuck it in the crock pot, then put a roast on top. Rubbed it down with s/p first. Then made my way back up stairs to bed. Cob was so sweet, he brought up peppermint oil for me to rub on my temples, a big glass of water, and an ibuprofen, all of which I gladly accepted. Drew took everyone to church. About 10:45 i rolled out of bed feeling SO much better. I fried an egg for myself, which improved my headache even more. I was so thankful not to be battling that headache while Bill and Mary were here! I did manage to get a nap in while Grandma loved up the non-nappers!

Grandma loved up some of the nappers too!! (after their naps) That Grandma just loves good lovin'! It was really cute, Chloe was giving Grandma all kinds of good loving. When I produced the camera - in shot Abram from who know where.

Abi got this great sewing box from Aunt Dawnie. She brought it down in the afternoon and made an announcement that she would do any mending for a penny. I quickly produced the pair of jeans she is carrying. She put a nice neat patch on them. I felt too guilty to just pay a penny so gave her a substantial tip.

We drive long and hard AND arrive at our family reunion! Terry and Eldon had already arrived. Matt, Michelle and kids got there shortly after us and a bit later David, Renee and kids pulled in. Above is a picture of David and Drew. It was great to see my sister and her family. 3 1/2 years is just TOO long!

We visited Kentucky Down Under. It was a really neat zoo type place.

A typical answer to the question "Did you have a good day Baruch?" is "Well, sort of, but no one played with me." It's not so much that no one played with him as it is that he likes to play different sorts of things. His cousin Julia enjoyed the same things. Here they are examining their catch. They built a home for it with a playground and really had a great time for hours with their pet before releasing it.

15 - September, 2010

In the morning we found our way to "Lost Cave". We all took a really neat tour of a cave in a boat. The guides did a great job.

That evening we had our annual talent show. Here Jacob and Melvin played for us. Each of the children had an opportunity to perform. Then the adults had an opportunity to perform. Matt entertained us all with some hilarious antics. Then separately the children came up and quoted scripture. The night ended with a group song from David, Renee and family of the "Fifty, nifty United States". Below is their family.

Our family split up, well not the Drew and Beth family. Terry, Eldon, Matt, Michelle and children, David and Renee and children went to a train museum with a train ride. The rest of us went for a short, kid friendly hike in Mammoth Cave National Park.

Drew took Baruch and Abram canoeing down the Green River. They had an amazing time. The other children and I packed and organized then went to a pool for the day. We went back again that night after supper.

We were off for the long sad drive home. If it weren't for the hope of our October visit with David, Renee and kids I think we all would have had a MUCH harder time saying goodbye to all the loving Uncles and Aunts and all the kissing cousins. As it was, good-bye was a big Boo Hoo!! When we pulled into town we went straight to a local grocery store that has an all you can eat buffet. I was SO thankful not to have to scrounge something up.

I REALIZE I AM leaving out huge events such as:

• Abigail's b-day celebration complete with gifts for all her siblings from Aunt Dawnie
• Uncle Matt's b-day celebration and gifts for all the kids from Grandma, Uncle Eldon and Aunt Terry
• More talent show pictures
• The pinata and hoopla that accompanied it

So I am hoping to get a slideshow of the reunion with more photos but since we upgraded our operating system I am not sure how to accomplish this at this time.
