Abram's First Birthday

Abram's First Birthday
Originally uploaded by thetribetalk.

Abram's woke up and nursed. Then Mary carried him lovingly downstairs. He was met at the foot of the stairs by Abigail singing "Happy Birthday to You"! She was SO excited for it to be Abram's FIRST Birthday. I promised the kids a trip to the park for lunch so I got a lot of mileage in the morning as we geared up for that and Grandma and Pa's visit. Chores were done, extra chores completed, then the fabric came out and we all started making bean bags. Abram loves to carry things around and I had gotten him a $.25 little cooler/bag at a garage sale. The plan was to fill it with bean bags as a birthday gift. I did the cutting, Mary did the first round of sewing the squares together. Then she and I turned them inside right and were joined by Cob and Gail for the filling. Next Cob and Mary sewed the bags shut! We enjoyed the park until I remembered that the timer on the oven read 04 when we left and we had been gone 45 minutes which meant Abram's cake was REALLY well done. We hussled home and I retrieved the crisp spice cake from the torture chamber. Grandma and Pa arrived and the fun really began. Drew got off work early and we all enjoyed cake around 2:00. Then Abram opened all the sweet things the kids had wrapped up for him. Lastly the bean bags which we all enjoyed. I think Pa and Cob enjoyed them the most though. They were playing all sorts of varieties of catch. Naps were next, followed by supper. Then Drew really encouraged us all with a recap of Gary's Sunday Sermon.

The grackles no longer occupy this nest. When this was taken there were two babies left in the nest. The rest were off having flying lessons. The dad bird still chases Jacob around the yard!

Best Friends

I have been praying about how to help Baruch and Abram become best friends. It is a very one sided relationship. Abram takes, Baruch gives. This morning Abram was crouching too close to Baruch so Baruch pushed him. After disciplining Baruch for the offense and praying for forgiveness Baruch gave Abram a hug; and the Lord gave me the idea of having Baruch feed Abram his breakfast! It was very sweet. I think full restoration has taken place, until next time!

Baruch said . . .

“boo boo is the last name for ouchies.”

Glasses

Mary - " I think they are great! I like wearing them because they are cool and everything looks so clear. I can see the robins, flowers, grass, trees, everything looks like a picture!

Jacob - "I got cool dude glasses. I see WAY! better. Everyone likes them."
Glasses are a cool delight
If you wear them every night!

The kids all had annual physicals in April. I have been noticing Mary and Cob don’t always see the best so the physician checked their vision. He recommended seeing an optometrist which we did on Wed. They both needed glasses. We picked out frames and got the order in. They were both very apprehensive until a good friend of ours pumped them up about how awesome glasses are. I kept telling them they were going to love them because they would be able to see! They were both very excited Friday night when their glasses came in. We went to pick them up and they have been enjoying their new world ever since. Mary walks around as if in a daze saying about everything. Mom did you see that? I can see that! Mom did you see this. Isn't it beautiful. . .

Mother's Day

Mother's Day was lovely. The kids gave me my gift Sat. AM. . . . An ICE CREAM MAKER! We have been putting it to good use. The farm milk we get has an unbelievable amount of the most nutritiously delicious cream which we have been skimming. There is a batch in the freezer waiting for Abram's Birthday (Monday already)! Sunday I was served pancakes and eggs in bed! Then Drew stayed home with the coughing kids and I went all by myself to church. The message was very encouraging. Then we went to Bill and Mary's. The weather was PERFECT. The kids enjoyed their cousins. Mary made a lovely meal then we just enjoyed one another's company. Abigail was showing all her ouchies to Grandma (Black toe nail from a 3# weight off the top bunk, black fingernail from I can't remember, cut thumb nail from celery slicing you get the picture). She and I headed out to push her doll in the HUGE tire swing and Abi missed the swing and got a huge fat lip! Poor dear girl. Baruch had a blast driving Abram around in the John Deere tricycle.

Robins and Grackles

Not so long ago Mary discovered a robins nest while playing in the tree fort. There were three eggs in it. A day or so later she reported the mother must have laid another egg. Yesterday one of the babies hatched! I cannot believe they made their nest in that hub of activity. The father bird was scolding when I went up to take the last picture. Jacob discovered a Grackle nest in one of our cedar trees (thanks to Grant he identified it right away). He checks on it often. All those babies hatched. Jacob must thrive on being attacked by the parents because he loves checking on the nest and usually ends up getting chased around the yard and pecked!

The nest is just behind Mary! How awesome to watch God's creation like this.

Drew's Latest Invention

I am forever intending to update the blog and never quite getting to it. Drew put up this handy dandy clothes line which any child can reach at one end. The pulley allows them to stand at the lowest point and pin away! The helpers are willing. I am thrilled. Drew will be glad to take down the old line which was always catching him by the neck. The pleasures of my home and children cause me post this picture and write no more.
